| Literally, the binding. This refers to Abraham's test, described in Genesis 22, when God tells him to offer Isaac as a sacrifice. Abraham binds Isaac and is rewarded by God for obedience, but is prevented from completing the act. In ancient times, human sacrifice was common, but the Hebrews rejected it. | |
